I am worried that people will make fun of me that my EE degree is taking me so long to finish.

Am someone that was in college for a long time, had no math teacher in high school so I started way below calculus, and in addition got sick, plus not everything transferring, so it took me 6+ years.

Engineering is admittedly not easy with the many labs. So much time commitment. I say it is one of the busiest majors, even more time consuming than my math major.

  • Please take care of your health, I list this first because it is so important, it is tough to study with sickness. I hope you at least get some sleep.
  • Try taking a lighter course load, spread out hard classes.
  • Focus on only one major. You mention you are studying both computer science and electrical engineering, so perhaps stick to one (the one you like better)
  • See if there are any free tutoring/workshops available in school.
  • Participate in lecture. Even ask just one question, don't worry about your peers, if you're going to get something wrong, get it wrong in lecture instead of when exam time comes.
  • Office hours, even if the professors don't really help, at least they know you are trying and may favor you. This did help me in Physics, where I did terrible in the final (surgery), but since the professor saw me going routinely in office hours, he let me pass.

Do not beat yourself up over taking long. You are NOT lazy, you do care as evident by asking for help. You worrying shows that you care and want to pass. Don't be afraid to try out a different major if your heart is not in engineering/CS, but if you do like it, please try once more.
