[AMA Request] Someone cut off from civilization for a long time like a shipwreck or hostage survivor.

Kind of what you're asking. I was at an "emotional growth" boarding school in Idaho called CEDU for two years straight. We were pretty much cut off from everything. No radio, cartoon network only. We got one monitored phone call every two weeks, an occasional letter and that's it. 9/11 happened when I was there, and my mom was a flight attendant, and they wouldn't let me call home, while kids who were from New York got to call home immediately. That kind of explains the place.

  1. I think Outback Steakhouse. It wasn't really up to me.
  2. Yep. The dentist we did go to didn't believe in Novocaine. That's how I got my first cavity filled. There were some weird things that lady did our teeth.
  3. Hell no. I'm older now, so I don't drink too much soda, but a few weeks after I got out I chugged a whole 2 litre of Vanilla Coke and threw up.
  4. I was only like 15. Hadn't had a beer yet.
  5. Well, Firefly was cancelled (maybe that was before I went in?). MTV's Fear was cancelled. Celebrity Deathmatch was cancelled. Maury was still on. I had no idea what the fuck American Idol was and they were on their second season. I still wasn't allowed to watch X-Files. I was so excited about the Resident Evil movie, but I couldn't really enjoy it because my mom was making me turn away from the "scary parts" (again, I was 15 and had loved that stuff since I was a kid). I guess I was more excited for the music I missed rather than shows and movies. System of a Down, Tool, etc.

Here's kind of a little "documentary" about it. If you want a serious dose of WTF watch the one titled "The Summit". Fun times. I just woke up from a crazy dream about it a few hours ago.
