AMA with Aaron Hamer, Interim Judge Manager

A series of questions based on my current feelings towards the program:

1) The Exemplar program is a popularity contest that benefits the most popular judges in the program. The small upside of it is the ability to recognize L1s for running FNMs well. Is there a point where enough judges can express a dislike for this program that it will go away?

2) The current system of hoop jumping L2s must go through each year is obsurd. Why is it not enough for us to run PPTQs, to travel to attend GPs, to teach and mentor other judges?

3) The Review system is a joke and the fact that we are required to submit reviews of judges to maintain our level is more so. I've been a judge for several years now, I have written dozens of well thought out reviews and have only received six reviews myself. Two of those have been advancement reviews. Do you actually think these reviews serve any actual purpose or am I correct in my feeing that they are a tedious waste of time used as a sort of homework for judges who are already underpaid contract workers?

4) The behind the curtain honor court that has been assembled to police the behaviors of judges is an embarrassing feature of our community. Why is it felt that a shadow covenant with no transparency is the best way to handle behavior problems in our community? Anyone can report a judge for any perceived misconduct and that judge could find themselves punished with little to no transparency. Shadow covenants are not a good idea.

I've spent years loving this community and now spend my days broken hearted watching it fall apart. The men and women who run the judge program continue to add tedium and remove fun from something most of us consider a hobby.
