It's amazing to me how The_Donald and Coronavirus truth subs have been censored for racism meanwhile BlackPeopleTwitter is one of the biggest subs on the platform

(I just want to make this very clear, first off: they do NOT bar you from joining if you are white. I am white and I comment all the time. The only time they lock threads to only black folks is during very specific, sensitive hot topics that had previously attracted bad faith actors. How it's being presented in this sub is a blatant misrepresentation.)

No I think organizing online communities and making potential members prove they are of a certain race to join is a problem

Why (And again, this is explicitely not what is happening, but still, why)? That's literally exactly how Native American tribes work. Same with Daughters of the Confederacy. Just two off the top of my head, the latter I'm a member of, purely for my alabaster skin dating back to the Mayflower. Just purely my race.

Every public online forum is default white, unless otherwise stated. Culture is automatically white. You're assumed white unless otherwise. This is just an obvious reality of a forum where you can't see faces. This has been studied time and again. Furthermore, white folks have plenty of places they can gather that others can't as well.

It just seems bizarre to say that a certain demographic can't have an online community to discuss things in good faith without r/asablackman content cropping up and derailing what was already a productive dialogue.

Maybe if a flood of people pretending to be black so they could say objectively shitty things about a particular demographic didn't brigade them, they might not have needed to do that... because I was there for the change. It was bad. And the change served its purpose. The amount of locked threads are so small it is fucking ridiculous to even feel put out about.

Don't you agree that the only person that should be able to speak about what it means to be a black person should be, you know, a black person?
