Amazon is so overrun by cheap low quality Chinese products that it's become impossible to shop there.

We were talking about this at work the other day as some of my colleagues have just started to get Amazon in their country. In the UK Amazon used to always be the cheaper option and had decent prices/selection. Now however they’ve slowly dominated the market and put other business out of action and so their prices are creeping up and the quality is drifting down.

I managed to buy all but one of my Christmas presents from shops that weren’t Amazon and I’ve not shopped there in ages.

A couple of tips for people for avoiding/dealing with Amazon:

• Amazon can still be good directory of products, so you could search on Amazon and then go find the product else where at a local/better company.

• Use tools like Keepa to track the price of an item on Amazon and see if the price they’re offering is inflated relative to what they’ve previously offered and if it’s a good time to buy. (It shows you a little graph on the product page and it’s very useful)
