Amber Heard, and the grotesque disparity in how men and women are treated in cases of domestic violence

I almost always give women claiming they are victims of abuse the benefit of the doubt and assume the man in the situation is guilty until proven innocent, because women are taken seriously so rarely in these situations. The evidence presented is never enough to please the court and the victim - if she is a female - almost always ends up vilified for faking it and trying to take the man's money or pride or whatever it is. It's always about the man in the situation and never about the woman and the struggles she is facing, which is ridiculously and blatantly sexist. However I must say that in this case of Amber Heard vs Johnny Depp I am a bit sceptical of Amber's claims.

I will say that the way Amber is being slandered in the media is completely unacceptable; she is being attacked because of her bisexuality and being called a "gold digger" and other derogatory terms of the sort. It is highly frustrating that, as per usual, the woman's claims are not being treated with respect. Even if she is just pulling a stunt for publicity and money, it is so aggravating that her complaints are being given so little consideration.

The timing of Amber's allegations are very uncanny; these reports of longterm abuse came right as Johnny was leaving the country for a world press tour to promote his new movie and nothing was said of any abuse until after the divorce was filed for. The police that arrived at the scene of the most recent instance of abuse on May 21st have said Johnny was nowhere to be seen when they arrived, and Amber herself said nothing had happened but a verbal argument and she chose not to file an official report. The police found no evidence or a crime and saw no reason to investigate. Amber arrived in court several days later visibly scratched and bruised on her face, which matches her story that Johnny threw a phone at her face and also struck her multiple times. But if this altercation occurred before the police were called as Amber has said, why when they arrived did they not investigate? If they received a call for domestic violence and arrived to see Amber with fresh visible wounds on her face, why did they claim there was no evidence of a crime or a reason to investigate? I have little respect for the American police force as an organization due to the widespread police brutality that has come to a head over these past few years, and I would hardly accept them as a credible source for a crime because of this, so this is not any hard evidence. But this is certainly a case of he-said-she-said.

I am not saying Johnny could not have abused Amber - he more than certainly could have. He could have a history with abusing her as Amber claims and he has been violent with her many times throughout their marriage. What I am questioning the validity of is the claim that Amber was assaulted by Johnny on May 21st, or at least to the extent that we are being led to believe.

I by no means support Johnny in this case, and for the time being I do support Amber. However I would be lying if I said that something doesn't seem fishy about her allegations.
