You tear your foes apart with elemental power, and absorb a fraction of the released energy to heal your own wounds. As part of this spell choose either acid, cold, fire, lightning, thunder, or poison damage. Make a melee spell attack against a creature within your reach. On a hit, the target takes 4d4 damage of your chosen type, and you regain hit points equal to half the amount of damage dealt. Until the spell ends, you can make the attack again on each of your turns as an action.
In addition, provided you successfully hit a target with this attack, you can immediately use your bonus action (before you deal this attack's damage) to gain resistance against the chosen damage type until you stop using your action to make this attack. If you already have resistance against this damage type when using your bonus action this way, then the target becomes vulnerable against that damage type until the end of your next turn.
**At Higher Levels.** When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 2d4 for each slot level above 3rd.
