Remember when this entire thing played out with single payer healthcare with the affordable care act. It was supposed to be a rough first legislation to make progress to getting complete single payer healthcare. A bunch of people argued that the proposed bill was trash and will cause problems and derail the movement. Then everyone said we should pass it to start progress today and help others now.

Well turns out it was a bad bill, it made everyone’s healthcare increase and then you were placed a gun to your head to pay for healthcare or else you get a big tax bill. All the republicans got ammo to shit on single payer healthcare, the corporate democrats got their pay out and shun future discussions. Now we’re 14 years laters and there’s barely political support for single payer healthcare except for a couple of progressives that the democrat party kicks down.

So now here we are again judging if we should do a one time fix that has a strong likelihood of being the old change or trying carrying the moment to push permanent change. I’d rather be nothing happen then for a one time group (which includes me, family, and colleagues) to get the benefit. Most of my college friends agree, we’re in this together.

I would support a bandied bill to permanently fix people getting fucked over. Like student loan repayments and interest should freeze the first year after college, during a recession, or during high unemployment. Along with bills to destroy predatory for profit schools. Pay off loans for people fucked by defaulting loans during the 2008 recession.

I want permanent change or money to be used for people who truly got dicked over hard times. Not people like me and most of my colleagues who can pay our debt back. Money is going to be tight for a bit and I want it thrown at people in need. Currently student loan payments are frozen so it isn’t an issue atm. We got big issues to worry about, but I’d be down to throw money if it’s target, not sprayed mostly at fresh grads and people with long term Law degree/med school loans. Those people can pay it back, others can’t.
