We don’t understand the phonetics of other languages.

Americans have fairly “common” first names that we know from experience how to pronounce. If even Americans choose a less common name, we have no idea how to pronounce it. For example, Thomas has a hard “t” rather than a “th” sound. Sean is pronounced “Shawn.” Leigh is pronounced “Lee.” We know these because we read them wrong as kids and were corrected.

Your name would stump me. I don’t know Norwegian pronunciation. Vegard. Does the v sound like a b, such as Spanish? Is the e an “ay” sound like French or “uh” sound like American English? Is the g hard or soft? Do you pronounce the d at the end? Etc.
