American guy is surprised when he gets a realistic hospital bill in forgein country

Yeah I think it's a combination of pride and ignorance of anything that happens outside of the US. This generation is lucky to live in a time where we can access information about any country, anytime. We can talk to someone half way across the world instantaneously, which makes us feel more connected to each other. We can hear firsthand what other countries are doing that work and don't work.

If you've spent your entire life only hearing one side of the story, the story that paints the US as a hero and the rest of the world as either a villain to be conquered or an inept populace that needs to be saved, it's hard to imagine that other countries could have better ideas about things.
