Why do Americans love the American Civil War so much?

It is estimated there are more than 40 million slaves in the world today -- that's more than 10 times the number in America in the 1860s -- and most work in the garment industry, so I'm sure we all wear clothing and use products produced by slaves. Nations have to make decisions about such things as slavery themselves and I believe in staying out of the affairs of other countries. It's truly ironic that people online become all belligerent and judgmental over slavery in the United States more than 150 years ago, but never give a passing thought to the slaves who made their clothing, gathered their food, assembled their electronic devices, mined the cobalt for their lithium-ion cell phone batteries, etc., etc.
