Americans of reddit, are you embarrassed after today's events and why?

Honestly. I'm glad it happened. I'm not glad people died but I'm glad this whole situation happened.

  • Congress got to experience the fear that folks have been living with on the streets for years now. Proud Boys and MAGAs and Far Left and ANTIFA have been beating people up and rioting for years now. They got a sense of what the rest of us have to deal with for once. That might push them to do something about this.

  • The country as a whole finally got to see the ugly that has been boiling up inside of us for the last four years. Yeah, we see it on the news but there was something symbolic and horrifying about it occuring at our center of government. That image might make some folks realize how bad this is and how desperately we need to change.

  • The shame of this on the national stage might force us to actually start taking care of things here at home. We've ignored ourselves for too long and have been sending money overseas for years. American excellence can't exist when we have nothing to feel excellent about here at home. Our country is in turmoil.
