Americans who have lived in other countries, where'd you go and what was your experience?

I lived in Belgium for a while. The whole thing was like a fever dream. I never quite understood what was going on. There was so much paperwork. Sometimes the town would shut for a bike race, there would be a warning letter in the mail about it, but because the road was shut for the race sometimes we wouldn't get the mail until after. There didn't appear to be a government, but there were several other governments so it didn't matter. The locals were very passionate about mayonnaise, and we're civil but not really friendly.

Then I lived in England. The tap water was chalky. Some guys in my neighborhood thought I was Polish and had mixed feelings. I discovered salt and chili chips. Some very aggressive catcalling, including being followed in a car while I was on foot.

Now I live in Scotland. Tap water tastes of fuck all. I still don't always understand what is going on but there's less paperwork. Sadly no bike races, but also no pressure to eat mayonnaise. People are friendly but absolutely not civil. It's like inverse Belgium.
