The amount of people who think cheating is okay makes me worried about the people I’ll meet in college

As someone who attends a T20 and went to a high school with rampant cheating:

You would think people are more straight laced, but people are working on tests together this year, Chegging all of their HW, sharing exam answers in Groupme, etc. I've been doing really well in my classes and 5 people knew this & wanted to compare test answers and cheat on quizzes together. I'm still friends with them, but politely turned them down (and luckily they're chill enough to respect that I don't feel like cheating).

If you visit any of the UC subreddits or r/college and search up "cheating" in their subreddit search you'll see tens of heavily upvoted and commented on threads about cheating where people will post heavily upvoted comments saying "cope", "snitches get stitches", "shut the fuck up" or "im looking out for myself first, good luck, play the game". Even in r/premed there was one post with 10 upvotes about cheating at the start of the pandemic and one person was like "I didn't sign up to take ochem and physics online, shut the fuck up narc" that had 60 upvotes.

I get it, most people on this subreddit (including you, me, and a bunch of my friends in HS who tended to be top of their class) are absolutely pissed that people can immorally finesse their way to the same grade you get and stand to take the opportunities you have a shot for. I can say for sure that it's wrong to cheat, but after a while you realize there's zero point to wasting your energy getting mad at these people, because you can't stop them all and society doesn't give a shit because of the "snitches get stitches" culture which promotes staying quiet about it.

I really hate to say it, but cheaters are more rampant in college honestly because now the stakes are higher. To be honest, that's just life in general, and cheaters don't get karma. It doesn't exist. In many cases, they will still win the game and get away with it. The sooner you come to terms with this is the sooner you can start refocusing.
