Amputees of Reddit, what happened? (NSFW) (SERIOUS)

I work as a prosthetics technician and currently going to school to be actually qualified for the job I have. The main reason people come in is because of diabetes. You see if you get a rock I. Your shoe you feel it and take it out. someone with diabetes may not have the nerve function in their feet to feel that so the rock stays there and eventually can cause problems like becoming imbedded in the skin and cause infection. Because they are diabetic they heal much slower so they end up with a lesion(not sure if that’s the right word) that can last for months and it festers and eventually turns gangrenous and then the doctors consider what type of surgery or amputation is required. TLDR most of our patients lose their limbs due to diabetes, more specifically with poorly managed diabetes.
