Is an apartment sized washer worth it?

YES, get a washer!

A few years ago I lived by myself and bought a small portable washer after getting sick of spending all those hours at the laundromat. It wasn't so much the costs that were bothersome, but the loss of time. Having the ability to throw a load of clothes in the wash before work and just leave it there all day was immensely satisfying. I go through a lot of clothes, though, so I ended up having to get a dryer, too, as I was tired of having wet clothes hanging around on every surface of my apartment. When I moved out, I ended up selling the set on CL for the same amount that I paid for it.

My gf and I recently moved into an apartment that doesn't have W/D units inside, so another portable washer was one of the first things we purchased. Now that there's two of us, it can be hard at times to keep all the clothes clean since the capacity is so small. Plus, we've run back into the problem of wet clothes hanging everywhere, as there's no good space to add a small dryer. We're greatly looking forward to moving back into a space with a full-size W/D setup in a few weeks.

All in all, a small washer is a fantastic improvement over going to the laundromat. Try to get a dryer, too. Here's the washer and here's the dryer that I bought. I paid $200 both times for the washer, new, and $100 for the dryer on CL.
