An Edmonton Infill Heritage Moment

Great video Troy, I wish you were running in my ward.

Most of the other candidates use weasel words, saying they will "consult with homeowners and the community" Sure, that's fine, but they never make it clear which side of the issue they are actually on. We elect councilors to represent us, not to call a plebiscite every time someone wants to alter their property.

I'm sick of hearing about this issue. If I buy a piece of land in this city and decide to split it in two, that should be my right.

"but you're ruining the character of MY neighbourhood!"

Your neighbourhood is a a cookie-cutter suburb built in the 50's, much like the cookie-cutter suburbs of Mill Woods, Terwillegar, or Ellerslie. Knocking down some crusty bungalow and replacing it with today's stock is not going to harm your property values. Having two families instead of one on the piece of land next door is not going to lead the neighbourhood to heights of crime or poverty. Quite the opposite.

Soon buying a house in this city will be like living in a condo if these NIMBYs have their way - nosy neighbours deciding what colour drapes you can have, or whether or not you're allowed to have a window on "their side" of your own house.
