An 'epidemic' of fake Ohio State jerseys: Why Buckeyes fans are buying them and what it means for the program

I'm not sure what all these other people are experiencing, because I have never seen a knock-off jersey that is "as good or better quality" as licensed stuff. The numbers, colors, stitching, you name it- they are almost always wrong.

Look at this shit, for example. Marcus Allen did not wear the SC jersey with shoulder crescents. He played during the 80s when USC had white and gold sleeve stripes. The number font is wrong (the numbers are too fat), the colors aren't right, and the jersey has a name on the back (USC cardinal sin #1).

Or this piece of crap. Same story. Wrong number font, wrong jersey style, name on the back, wrong colors, cheaply made.

And yet I've seen a ton of people walking around in these at the Coliseum this year.

I'm not really worried about USC or Nike losing money because they have piles of money. Nor am I that worried about workers, it's not as if Nike is honestly treating its workers that much better than some crappy counterfeit operation in China.

I'm more worried about customers who are getting ripped off. They think they are buying something cool that is poorly made, and that doesn't even come close to looking like what the team wears. There are a few tools on eBay who clearly buy jerseys off of Alibaba, mark up the price to $100, and then sell them to gullible fans. Even if you buy direct from Alibaba $30-40 is still too much for some crappy knock-off

The easiest way you can tell you're talking to a bandwagon USC fan is if they're wearing a counterfeit jersey with the name on the back. If you buy one of these you walk around looking like a tool and you've been scammed.
