An extremely strong interview with a Vietnam vet who returns to Vietnam (NSFW Language)

grandpa never talks about the war. i'm almost 30 and never has gotten anything out of him except he once told me he was shellshocked and one time, I don't remember how it came up, I think we just watched the movie Fury in theaters, but we were at a mall going down a escalator, we were bickering I think and he blurted out, "we killed kids!" I just shut the fuck up right there and then and we never spoke of it since.

If you seen Fury, there's a part where the young character sees these two girls he likes get killed while another soldier tries to drag him back to reality. My grandpa said, "he's teaching him how to be a man" and I just thought, "wtf does that mean?"

That's all I know about it and don't want to know anymore. I only get more information if he bumps into other veterans and talks about his base location with them or stuff like that, nothing else has ever come out. I stay quiet and let them have their bonding conversation as him finding a connection with someone else is nice to see as he finds some form of bond
