An Indigenous Australians Thoughts on change the date

Really? I think people in general lack compassion beyond a certain point and the media intentionally fuels fires that normally would not even exist. Be honest, skin complexion and culture aside, do you really care about anyone outside of your social circle?

I understand the issue the aboriginal people have with Australia day, I have sympathy for them as a whole and believe that they have every right to protest the celebrations on the 26th and they have every right to hold commemoration ceremonies on that day if that helps them heal.

I honestly lack compassion for anyone outside of my immediate family and circle of friends. I have compassion for the friends from my childhood (who include people from Aboriginal, Hong Kong, Latvian, Malaysian, Italian and Greek backgrounds), I have compassion for the cousins that I grew up with and I have compassion for the close friends I made when serving in the ADF. Even then, that would probably be stretching it, there are over seven billion people in the world now and despite what some people may believe, we are all animals of Earth. I do not have the cerebral capacity to honestly show compassion for every single living thing on this planet other than if I crossed paths with someone in trouble I would show compassion and help them if I were able. Other than that, my focus is on my family and I would not expect anyone else to be any different.
