An Open Letter to the Reddit Community

I was blessed to be born here, my parents were immigrants from India. My dad grew up in a 1 room house. One room roughly the size of a modern living room. His dad had to bike around 15 miles to work as an accountant every day, so he didn't have a lot of time to spend with his 3 kids, but what he did instill in his kids was education. He would, with the extra money they could collect, buy different articles and books to learn more about the world around them.

One thing he had posted on the wall was a small world map. My grandpa used to point to the US on the map and tell his kids that the US is the place of opportunity. My dad, using education, and drive that my grandpa gave him, work hard enough to get to the US, with only $20 in his pocket once he arrived.

Although I cannot speak from a perspective of a refugee, I know with confidence that people see the US as the land of opportunity, and that it is our duty to provide this opportunity to those who seek it.

Today, I'm not much, but I am a proud Eagle Scout who is more of an American Muslim than anything else. It almost makes me tear up to see so many people different than me fighting for people like me, and even though this may get buried, I would like to say to the US, thank you.
