An Open Letter to Those Praising the New York Times “Tomboy” Piece

this imho is what is generally wrong with political correctness run amok within the larger trans* community. Nobody is willing nor can create definitive definitions agreed to by the ENTIRE community, not just some specific org or group. This would honestly help prevent people from getting trans related concepts completely wrong. As soon as we "define" anything, there is a "don't label me" or "don't tell me who i am"... its tiring and one of many reasons people have a hard time taking trans people and politics seriously, not to mention the mercurial nature of those definitions between people. I've seen many trans people get very specific concepts like horribly wrong, like the aforementioned gender vs gender roles. They -ARE- two different concepts and honestly can be a very clear differentiator on whether you are trans or not. Everyone questions their gender role at some point in their life. EVERYONE. Few folks question their gender identity.

Contrast this for the LGB* community, and they are fairly fucking clear, you're either attracted to a certain sex or not.

ok... /endrant
