An r/maher favorite guest telling people to "deal with it" when it comes to Americans getting killed in Afghanistan.

I'm legitimately confused by people saying Biden is handling the Afghanistan poorly. Did people forget that Bush, Obama, and Trump all escalated the war and caused way more deaths to Americans and Afghans?

Obviously the withdrawal is bad optics, but what was Biden supposed to do? He already stayed longer than was negotiated, the Taliban said they would start attacking US forces again if we stayed past August.

Could we have gotten Americans and SIVs/other Afghans out earlier? Maybe. However, if we started evacuating 80,000 people in June for example, wouldn't we have caused a moral panic in Kabul anyway, triggering the collapse of the Afghan government earlier.

You can't withdrawal all in one day so it was inevitable that the Taliban would have made ground towards Kabul and similar situation would most likely have occurred.

The fact that 12 people died is tragic but people should compare it to the amount of deaths in previous administrations, or the amount that would have happened if we stayed pass the peace negotiation deadlines.
