An UL POC vents: this is political whether you accept it or not, and racism exists on trail whether you accept it or not.

I'm not trying to be combative, but I'm trying to not be ignorant. Of course racism is terrible, but of all of the examples you gave the one with the Confederate flag is the only one that seems to have any racist connotations. I don't know how a dog can be racist, they just sound like bad dog owners. As a dog owner myself when I'm out on walks i see a ton of poorly behaved dogs by owners of all types of backgrounds (I live in a diverse city). And the two examples you gave involving shelters just seem to be rude people. I've had white roommates who have shown both kinds of behavior: either violated my personal space or they were overprotective of theirs. But they were just being dicks, not racist since we lived together and we were friends. Btw I am not white, I am a POC as well.

I don't follow hiking related social media so I don't have any comment on what's been going on with the Trek or w/e.
