Ancient Greeks didn’t kill ‘weak’ babies, new study argues.

Is it? At least from reading the Science article, it sounds like the Plutarch quote about Sparta came to be accepted as fact as applying to ancient Greek society more generally. The author has gathered various pieces of evidence suggesting that it was not a common practice in other regions of Greece.

At least in the Science article, the only evidence refuting the idea that this was a practice in Sparta is the example of short/disabled king. It wouldn't be the first time a royal family applied different rules to themselves than their subjects.

I had only really heard of this type of infanticide in Sparta, and I was expecting the article to refute that claim. Instead, it seems to refute a claim about this being a widespread practice in all of Greece, a claim I'd never really heard.
