Andrew Wiggins is, statistically, the worst 21 year old player to average at least 20 PPG.

Great post by the OP, but I'd tend to disagree on the max contract issue. I think this is, in fact, a pretty good argument for why Wiggins is not a max-contract player. Or at least, not one that any team should covet.

The real advantage in the NBA is that the salary structure creates max-contract players that are worth much more than the "max contract." In a truly free market NBA, LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry would be making much more than they do. In economic terms, the teams that have the contract rights to these undervalued players are getting an "economic surplus."

Wiggins' stats outside of scoring are pretty abysmal. And even his ability to score is probably a bit overrated. 23.6 points on 19.1 field goal attempts; that's a mere 1.23 points per shot. Compare to other players with similar output and Wiggins needs more shots to achieve his average. Jimmy Butler, for instance, produces 23.9 points on 16.5 field goals or 1.45 points per shot.

I'm not seeing a terrible good argument for taking him at the max.
