The problem with data-driven approaches, and statistical handwaving in general, from the perspective of someone like me who double majored in CS/math at a top 10 school and graduated with honors, is that people can lie about data or use it to deliberately sway people into false conclusions. If you had majored in math in college like I did, you would probably know that.
