Anger at decision to prosecute depressed man who tried to kill himself on the M6

You can’t legislate against irrational thinking. It’s obviously impossible to create a law that will stop a severely depressive person taking their own life if they are determined to.

But yes, what you can do, and unfortunately have to do, is uphold a prosecution for when an unsuccessful suicide attempt has endangered the lives of others.

Do you think the police or the prosecution barrister are sitting there rubbing their hands together going “yes, I can’t wait to see this guy go down for this”? Of course they’re not. They’re trying to protect the safety of others by enforcing the laws that are in place for people’s safety.

If there’s people who think I’m totally wrong, and somehow forgot to consider that people trying to die in traffic might not be thinking perfectly rationally, then tell me why they don’t need to charge him for this.
