Why The Anger That Has Lifted Sanders and Trump Is Here to Stay: A substantial number of voters think they’ve been cut out of America’s implicit economic deal.

I am not sure how old you are but I am on the tail end of "millenial." I am doing just fine as are most of my friends. Admitedly, I do worry about the future for me and my children (just like I remember my parents losing jobs and living paycheck to paycheck as a kid). I racked up student loan debt and suffered a few hard years to pay it off pretty quickly. I have a career in a good field, I save my money, I own a rental property but a super old car and live a pretty frugal lifestyle for my income. My parents BOTH worked from 16-current in their fifties. MY mother makes $12 an hour as a cashier (after being there for 6 years) and my father is in manual labor. I am doing better than both of them combined financially and I am not "jealous" of my father for fighting for a pension so he could retire from the same company after 30 years with a little bit of dignity and ability to pay his bills with a part time job. Further, it is also the right of my parents to advocate for themselves with their taxation (they've been paying taxes for a lot longer than both of us and will have to work in some capacity pretty much forever). You do not get to generalize an entire generation because you are unahppy in your own life. MY father gets up at 4am EVERY day and works outside in the heat, snow, rain, wind etc and drives an hour each way to do so. So fuck you for lumping him and all the men in their late fifties with permanent windburned faces and calling an entire generation of people lazy. Entitled is the people our age who think their 4 years of partying at $50k a pop with no experience entitle them to step into some lucrative management position or that they are somehow smarter than everyone else. If you want to target specific people for their laziness, greed, and blindness, go ahead but do not blame your shitty existence on the generation that came before, that is tired and lazy in and of itself. You make your own luck in this world, even when you think others had it easier. Stop buying $800 phones, fancy cars, fancy trips, premium cable packages, expensive clothes etc. IF you hate your job, live as meagerly as possible and set a goal to make a better life for yourself. IF you are in dire need and living in poverty, we have social nets. The results of your life at some point have to become your responsibility. Further, do you even vote? Boomers participate in government and are catered to for their votes. Millenials do a lot of whining but not a lot of voting. So galvanize your friends and become a group that politicans have to care about or STFU and quit blaming everyone else's parents for your misery. Go support the verizon strikers who are sacrificing food on the table in order to demand better wages (millenials tend to be anti union but decry corporate greed, i don't get it). Go get involved in groups that entice politicians to better the interests of millenials. Encourage our uneducated friends to learn a trade - it's going to be tough to automate plumbing in the next ten years. Fix your life and stop whining.
