Angles make all the difference.

Came here to say this. I think there is a positive benefit to this kind of post. When I was younger, I would see awkward pictures of myself (I'm not photogenic; there were many) and think "god, this is how everyone sees me all the time, isn't it?" as if the one bad angle a lens happened to catch at just the right moment was the only mental image people could have of me. I used to think the worst photos of myself were the "reality," and any decent ones were flukes. I was already a really self-conscious kid, and that sort of thinking didn't help any.

The whole trend of sending "ugly"/unflatteringly-angled selfies between friends, along with the side-by-side comparison shots posted in places like /r/prettygirlsuglyfaces, was actually a big help for me in realizing that the way people view each other in real life is generally more charitable than bad photos lead us to believe---that having a bad photo (or a hundred) taken of you isn't going to suddenly change the way everyone already sees you.
