Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct 2.20.2020

I found this direct pretty disappointing. Almost everything they showed was already a feature in previous games, or a rehash of new features they've already talked about. The only substantial new feature shown was terraforming, which is admittedly cool, but that's not really enough to justify a 25 minute direct in my opinion.

Seeing that the nook ticket takes you to yet another island that looks the same as your own island was a particular bummer. They could have done the inverse of the classic games and sent you to an urban environment. I fear the island aesthetic becoming monotonous.

I'm clearly in the minority here as people seem very excited for this, but I can't help but wish they were a little more ambitious. They could have done so many interesting things with a larger and more varied setting, new activities, enhanced dialogue systems, or what-have-you, but it seems they're content to make yet another of almost the exact same AC game. I think Breath of the Wild set too high a bar for Nintendo games this generation. I keep hoping all of their repetitive franchises will break out of their mold and do something exciting, but so far none of their games are living up to it.
