Annoyed with Only Child subreddit

There’s an age where it’s developmentally appropriate for kids/young adults to question aspects of their upbringing and to feel extreme emotions about the parts they deem to be lacking. It’s not uncommon for people in that phase of development to a.) struggle or refuse to see their own contributions to suboptimal outcomes of their life (for example, building up a fictional sibling as a panacea to loneliness in adolescence instead investing in developing and caring for friendships) and b.) acknowledge the strengths and benefits of their own perspective, preferring to romanticize other perspectives (the proverbial “grass is always greener.”)

Just as these behaviors are developmentally normal, so is growing out of them once an individual matures and gains a more sophisticated perspective. There are lots of subreddits that draw people who are in that in-between stage and need to vent. There are plenty of subreddits focusing on other topics that have identical energy.
