Well that and the average person on the street isn’t going to know or be able to tell if your watch is automatic or quartz so they won’t know just how obsolete it is.

I mean smartphones have basically rendered even quartz watches obsolete except in situations where you can’t have a phone. I usually wear a wristwatch but I’m not under any impressions that it’s anything other than functional jewelry. I could talk about how it’s faster to glance at my wrist than pull my phone out of my pocket, and while that’s true, it’s negligible and I can’t see that being someone’s actual reason for wearing a watch.

Now a pocket watch I don’t know that I’d go out with because that’s just a bit too much of an anachronism for my tastes but people should do what makes them happy.
