Anon's opinion on muslims

I'm just not sure what to think any more. Is it really a minority? It certainly isn't all Muslims, I can't believe that. But honestly, to a non-Muslim such as myself it feels like a substantial enough amount.

I've got lots of stories, as I'm sure have you and any other Malaysian, but here are just a few to highlight my point:

In high-school I remember Malay inter-school hockey teams in Seramban intentionally injure us with their hockey sticks even if it meant them getting sent off just because our team consisted of an international pallet. I've pretty much heard every racial slur there is to hear and had to block hockey sticks aimed at my head constantly. It was so persistent that we had to have pep-talks every match to discuss how to react to this sort of thing. We were literally told not to retaliate as it might result in us potentially having to evacuate the premises. This is nearly two decades ago though, so I can't speak for what it's like down there now.

On a more recent note, I stopped my car to help a Malay gentlemen that had slipped on his bike while taking a corner in the rain. The car directly behind him stopped too, driven by an older Chinese man. We got out of our cars and helped the bike off the guy, to which his reaction was to scream at us to fuck off and not help him (despite him not being able to even get the bike off of himself). Meanwhile another Malay biker immediately stopped and aggressively asked him if one of us knocked him down. At this point more bikes were looking back and trying to stop but weren't able to as they were on the fast lane of an adjacent road. The biker that stopped wanted to start a fight, and the rest were looking to join. Me and the Chinese uncle looked at each other and left immediately. I will never stop to help a motorcyclist ever again, which actually saddens me.

My father (white) has had an entire village throw stones at his car while driving past a Kampung in Pahang. He was looking for access to a river to go white-water rafting. They apparently waited for him to come back as they knew it was a dead-end logging trail and literally chased him out of the area screaming all manner of racial slurs, despite the road being a public one that only edged the village.

My mother, an older Chinese woman, has had a taxi driver refuse her passage while being very vocal about willing to just take her Malay colleague. Another got upset that she had the audacity as a Chinese, and a woman at that, to tell him what road to take back to our home. It got to the point where he went on a rant about rights and threatened her in Malay the entire journey back. She was so shaken by it she hasn't used MyTeksi since.

All this being said, one of my best friends is a Malay-Muslim. I've also felt very welcome in Kuantan, which stereotypically has a poor reputation in terms of racism. This is a very confusing country to live in.
