Another bar closing - Zeke's

So, with respect, and i'm seriously just trying to explain what these other people aren't communicating rather rudely, yes, it absolutely sucks when you're favorite bar closes.

There are many many bars still open that are cheap. Again, i'm not illustrating this because i'm trying to be rude, i'm not, but bars that fit this category i frequent, off the top of my head are Specs, Gold Cane, Molotov's, Uptown, Blind Cat, The Saloon, Phone Booth, Lucky Horseshoe, Greens, Mini Bar, Dimples, Hotel Utah, etc. So, I don't think we're running out of cheap dive bars any time soon, even if seems like many are closing.

Now, what i think those who are very curt are trying to communicate, is that, well, many of those who respond this way are in the city and aren't so lucky with inexpensive housing. Those that are paying $2500+ for one bedrooms, or ever $1500+ for shitty rooms with roommates (often forced to illegally subsidize their master tenants), well, they sit and hear people online brag about their sweet deals. Then when something like this happens, the costs are finally touching people who've been living in a proverbial fantasy land. The shadelnfruenda isn't appropriate, it's certainly rude, but many of those complaining are the same people who would blame new people who come to this city for work or because they love it, for ruining it.

While many sit back and mock the "techies" coming in paying high rent, at the end of the day, when these thirty year leases expire, only the businesses that resist the urge to stay their prices to gain a monopoly on cheap beer will survive. Only those that own their building, or have some sweetheart deal will be able to maintain below market rate prices. While they may seem exorbitant to you now, as you may think the rents are exorbitant, this is indeed the new normal, and many will unfortunately take the piss as other sadly must come to that realization. The increase in rents will effect everyone, it's only a matter of time.
