Another Blade 15 Advance with Coil Whine

I THINK I FIXED IT! I decided to keep my original RB152070 and throw a “hail mary” at the issue with hopes that I can at LEAST reduce the coil whine down to a manageable amount. The steps I performed were as followed:

  1. I completely disassembled the heat sink, keyboard light and screen ribbon cables
  2. Removed RAM
  3. Removed SSD
  4. Removed WiFi adapter
  5. Disconnected Battery
  6. Connected power cable

After performing the 6 steps above, I noticed severely reduced coil whine. I, step by step, added back each component backwards all the while safely unplugging, turning on the laptop and plugging it back in. I rinsed and repeated for each process.

I found the culprit: the screws for the heatsink. It appears that the springs in the screws for the heat sink that surrounds the GPU area (not the ones that hold down the heat sinks on the sides), causes this interference for some odd reason. The buzzing on my machine came directly from the 4 screws surrounding the GPU.

Solution? I dipped those bitches in isopropyl alcohol for 5 minutes and also demagnetized them. I then re installed them and tightened them hard and now BOOM! Coil whine reduced. I also for good measure replaced the M.2 NVME as well (as reported by a few users on here)

Coil whine is still there however it’s extremely manageable. Only time will tell.

Insane.
