Another year and another field season comes to an end. How was your year?

How are peoples' thoughts on the market? I've been finding, as an American geo, that competition is very fierce as mentioned below, in exploration. I've been having trouble with my connections in Canada finding work- I have great contacts and experience, but as most exploration consultancies and juniors are Canadian, or subsidiaries of Canadian companies- unless my connection is first-degree (i.e. my colleague/buddy getting me the job, and not connecting me to a 2nd degree contact whom I've never met) they say something to the effect of

"You look great, but we're not hiring at the moment, or are hiring local-only"

I know geologist employment (or lack there of) in Canada is already under stress with the oil market collapse and mining seeming to just be getting back on its feet. So companies are hiring from their network and/or local Canadian hires- I see a fair number of Canadians working in the US (esp AK), but not really hearing of any US geologists getting work on the Canadian side. I know of several buddies who are having trouble getting consistent, or even any work in the US.

Anyone see similar things happening?
