I don’t think Shorten was suppressed at all by sharing his life story. He got plenty of air time discussing his single Mum working her arse off to get him into a good university and the hardships they faced along the way. He spoke passionately, he was a man of the people, he was a hero at the Beaconsfield mine collapse and refused to back down when the company would have left them for dead. He wanted to abolish Franking credits and negative gearing and wanted to make sure the “top end of town” paid their fair share.
