Antibiotics cause autism

Ok, so I promise I am not woo-filled, but this is at least somewhat plausible. Hear me out. There is a lot of research to suggest that autism could be caused by some sort of imbalance of gut bacteria. At the very least, there is a correlation among certain autoimmune disorders (Crohn’s, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis), certain mental disorders (ADHD, anxiety, depression, autism), and gut bacteria imbalances (as well as acid reflux, wasn’t sure where to put that one, maybe with gut stuff?) The research on the gut bacteria is still pretty new, but it’s not exactly fringe science or anything. Antibiotics do mess with your gut bacteria (which is why oftentimes doctors will recommend that you use a probiotic along with taking antibiotics), so it’s conceivable that antibiotics would increase chances of developing autism. BUT, even if this was the case, it would be a very slight increase in risk, and it wouldn’t be that antibiotics are THE CAUSE of autism. And if your kid has an ear infection (for example), you would still want to take this increased risk of autism to treat the infection, since the risks with an untreated ear infection are pretty bad.
