The Antidote to Trump Is Decency

I was making the point that there is not a case that Bruni is a war criminal.

Got it. I did misread that.

My issue is, if cool heads and measured language will prevail, why is no one with a truly vested interest in the success of left wing policy calling for it?

Partisanship? I think there are people calling for unity. I've even heard talk about a unity ticket kicked around by a few talking heads, but maybe not in the quarters you're in. I don't know, in the contemporary online media landscape, we can each find a niche that feeds our confirmation bias.

Why is it the opinion of only centrists Republicans that we oppose trump with delicacy?

Well, I'm not a centrist Republican, but maybe I don't matter. Which might be the case.

This all seems like well heeled individuals arguing for a policy that makes them the least uncomfortable.

This is true. But I think from a pragmatic standpoint and given the current political landscape in this country (i.e., taking into consideration the number of individuals that fit that descriptor), appealing to this group is the quickest means to political success. It's not the base you need to appeal to, they're already sold on their views and you probably won't convince them of anything else, but it's those iffy centrists and independents, which according to surveys make up the larger portion of voters, that can be meaningfully moved.
