The Antiwar Comic: It’s a Money Thing

The direct cost of the Afghanistan and Iraq wars is now $1.8 trillion. That is what has been spent since 2001. That does not include the long-term costs of veterans care, replenishment of materiel destroyed, interest on the money borrowed, the indirect costs of the currency devaluation. Just with what has been flushed down the toilet to date — $1.4 trillion. Americans could have built 5,800 bridges just like that one. Every state could've been given 10 such projects, with the jobs that come with them.

And that highlights the real cost of these wars: the "opportunity cost" ... what could have been done with that money? To what other good and noble purposes could it have been applied?

Do you see what a tremendous cost the nation has paid for 11 years of war? Are the implications that the choice will have for America's future clear to you?

Incidentally, it was reported yesterday that another insider attack by Afghan forces has killed a U.S. service member – which brought the total number of U.S. troops killed inside Afghanistan to 2,000. Those 2,000 lives represent yet another cost of the war.

Bring 'em home! They did their part; now it's time we do ours. Let's start living our lives like there we have a better purpose for living than simply killing and destroying.
