Any audiophiles / Gamers here? I'm looking to get my first headphones that aren't "GAMING" headphones

In my experience most folks in the audiophile subs (/r/headphones /r/audiophile /r/BudgetAudiophile) are going to tell you to get headphones that aren't marketed as gaming headphones.

Similar to with PC parts, "gaming" has become a marketing term they can print on the box slap some bold paint on the product and charge more. Especially with headphones, "gaming" ones and ones with supposed "surround sound" tend to be overpriced with really sub-par audio components.

As far as "surround sound", remember that you only have 2 ears so any kind of surround effect with headphones would be emulated (and most games that have positional sound effects know how to work with headphones) so you're better off finding a pair of 2 channel headphones with good drivers and a separate mic if you need/want one.
