Have any of you had to swallow your pride and return to a menial life position after a major failure?

A little different but I was a really promising student who after getting a good degree spent a few years just depressed and aimless. After that I couldnt continue in my field at all unless I was to return to university and try to work it from there, because it was too much of a factual field and after not being involved with it for a few years the knowledge goes to waste and the field develops further. Plus I had no experience in it or a clear goal what I wanted to do with it.

Then I started a random temp job and fell into a different field by accident. Even without a degree in it I got good experience until I realized I hated it. Then same thing happened in another field

Now I think I just hate jobs and have no direction
