Really? Tell me, what is my mind made up on exactly? I really would like to know.

You have made up your mind that the government is interfering in social media and Reddit. Do you deny this? Look at your post history, how many times can you spam that link to about social media research?

Okay, here is a Guardian article July 2014 talking about US military funded research into studying and manipulating social media:

Speak of the devil... I must have missed in that article where it says they actively manipulate Reddit. I must have also missed where they manipulated anyone.. Posting things and tracking their spread hardly sounds like manipulation. Do you deny the value in this line of research? Is it not an interesting question on a human psychological level barring everything else?

I think there is plenty of strong evidence that the US government has done quite a bit of research on social media

Well good thing that's not what anyone is denying!

In light of that alone, it is not irrational to suspect that US government and allies would be involved in surveilling/manipulating social media sites.

Also not totally unreasonable. What is unreasonable is lobbing accusations about government influence on Reddit with no evidence.

I often look through the comments of posts deleted for politics, and nine times out of ten, I just don't see these "assholes in the comments" which would warrant removing the post.

I don't have any political ones that are a good example off hand because we usually remove them quickly if they get through the filter. What I do have, is an excellent example of the police brutality videos leading to personal info and witch hunting. There's a dozen examples of witch hunting and personal information that was removed in that thread.

It just doesn't make sense to me to outright ban all politics out of fear of a few trolls.

It's not "fear of a few trolls". It's just politics is a topic that is rarely discussed politely and it's not something we are interested in dealing with on /r/videos. The more subscribers, the worse it goes.
