I never commuted per se but I made a lot of trips into SF and San Ramon from Sac. There can be quite a bit of wind around the bridges and like 680 is just a huge wind tunnel most of the time. When I did it I was on a smaller 636 and weighed maybe 130lbs so it tried to walk all over but it's manageable if you know what you're doing.

The more frustrating part is the cars/trucks making surprise wind screens to adjust back and forth for. When it's light traffic it's fine just constantly compensating but constantly needing to plan for passing and being passed massive changes in wind gets old kinda quick imo.

All really depends on your riding comfort level. It's doable, just be safe.
