Do any other males RP as a female character?

I joined a gay D&D group in the middle of a game, and as it was a total sausage fest I decided strategically to make a female Eldrich Knight.

Sounds homophobic, to be honest.

But on topic: I roleplayed a female elf in an MMO for 6 years. For almost 4 of them, almost everyone thought I was a female player. It wasn't until I logged in and people were arguing vehemently in global chat about some player (me) being male or female that I discovered it was actually an issue of interest to anyone. Many of my character's closest friends thought I (the player) was female and were saying so in the argument. I set the record straight immediately when I found out it was me that they were talking about. Somehow it was important on that roleplaying server.

The only time I felt bad about it was when a player who is a lesbian told me she "fell in love with me". We had spent months together on that roleplaying server. My character was known to be married in-game, so I thought she— rather, her character —was claiming to love my character. When I found out she— as a player —was professing she loved me— the player —I told her that I was a male player in no uncertain terms. ((Out of character, and everything.)) She almost immediately quit the game, that day, and I didn't see her again for more than a month. When she finally came back, she had virtually nothing to say to me ever again.
