I started on the Walmart version of the "ECB", to put it crudely it's basically a smaller less efficient "WSM"...charcoal pan, water pan, grates...but for $40 (well it was a gift) it was good for me to learn on without a huge financial investment to make sure it was a hobby I actually wanted to pursue

There's only one vent: so it's hard to dial in temp, and it's hard to tend to the coals. But there are plenty of mods you can make easily to improve the functionality

Its thin metal, so it loses heat pretty easily. My first smoke was in February in New England so I spent a lot of time adding more charcoal and tending to it.
