Any safe and clean auto shop still take apprenticeships? Or are apprenticeships dead?

It’s possible but the start up costs quickly, quickly pile up.

You’ll need: A garage space, preferably two.

A semi-okay lift is $3k and you’ll need it.

Tools. Oh boy. Every brand has their own special pain in the ass tool that costs $500 and you have to have it. Our family has spent well, well over $15k in tools in the last decade. It’s probably much higher but that’s all I’m allowed to write off so I stop counting after I reach my yearly limit.

A tool box itself can cost $2k for the cheapest, low rent version you can find, ie Harbor Freight. Oh hey and do you want to move at any point? A full tool box requires a tow truck to move it anywhere.

Then finding the parts is fun. A lot of used junk yard parts aren’t in smaller areas like KC. You have to go where the people are, which is why I’ve driven to Fresno for a transmission.

It’s fun, and something to do when you’re bored. But it’s not cheap.
