If you’re getting shot at, go to the nearest cover away from the line of fire and try to spot the enemy without exposing yourself. Then peek when the timing is right and try to expose yourself as little as possible and for as short a time as possible and with as few bullets as possible. If you’re completely out in the open and not near cover, move in zig zags (crouch and stand over and over if needed) and try to spot the enemy by listening to where the gunfire is coming from and looking for possible places they could be hiding if they’re not out in the open. After you’ve located the enemy, proceed to fire back either by ADSing or with hip fire (depends on gun and situation). If they’re relatively close and not behind cover or circling you, dropshotting can be useful. The rest is standard procedure (zig zags, lateral/diagonal movement, ducking, etc.)
