Any tips for meaningful discussions with sensors?

I've got tips for meaningful discussions, but they're not necessarily directed towards sensors. But I'd like to think that they apply to a lot of people, sensors included.

  1. The topic needs to hold some value to the person you're talking to. It doesn't matter how intelligent they are, if they're not interested, they're not going to absorb. So emphasize why it is valuable.

  2. Don't just focus on sensor vs intuitive. You'll get more bang for your buck if you appeal towards their Judging function. If someone is a Te user, I talk Te. If someone is a Fe user, I talk Fe. If someone is a Fi user, I have to figure out what the hell their internal value system is and I talk that. Etc. Speak the language of how they make decisions.

  3. If you're prone to making jumps, you need to verbally connect those thoughts to the conversation. No one can follow what you don't express, and then they interpret it as loose associations.

  4. In the same vein, if you are prone to a tangental or circumfrential conversational style, you are probably going to piss off anyone who wants you to get to the point. Give them the point, and then offer explanation if needed. Sometimes its not that the explanation was bad or that the person couldn't follow...it's just they don't have the goal in mind because you're saving it until the end. Thesis goes at the beginning of the presentation.

  5. Do more listening, and really explore where the other person is coming from before you start adding your own thoughts. You have to know what they know before you can build on it. This is especially important for situations where the education level is drastically different between the two people exchanging information. Ask questions that make them clarify their thoughts, or come to their own conclusions. Sometimes just by being an active listener, people will take you more seriously. Especially if they're the type that refuses to listen to anyone who hasn't proven that they understand them first.
